The weather was cooperative, and the crowd was strong. Dealers setup started early, and everyone was ready by 9 AM. Henry Perez the alderman for the district read the proclamation for R. S. Yeoman day, February 23, 2014. I had the honor of being between Sharon Yeoman Dodd (the daughter of R. S. Yeoman), and Ken Bressett (Editor of the
Red Book), for the ribbon cutting. Sharon Yeoman Dodd, Laura Dodd DeGroot (granddaughter or R. S. Yeoman), and Ken Bressett autographed books for people. Philip Bressett was also in attendance (Phil is Ken's son). Phil is a contributor to the
Red Book, so I asked him to sign one of my earlier Red Books. Phil stopped by my table and we had a great chat on some of the variety coins. Ken also stopped by and we had a nice chat on the history or the Racine Numismatic Society. Ken said he still gets our newsletter, so he could put a face to my name. When Ken lived in town he always came to the meetings. I remember when Phil had a counter in a pharmacy where he bought and sold coins (probably in about the early 1980's). I joked with him a bit because I know our paths crossed when I would visit his little counter. Bill Spencer is our treasurer and also has input into the
Red Book. It was a blast seeing the history come to our show!
Jack stopped by and we had a nice little chat, and a member of the PCGS message board stopped over, too. (I am "fcloud" on the PCGS message board.)
My wife watched my table for me while I was able to take a look around. I picked up a couple of
Mercury dimes (nothing special, and no varieties). The other dealer I talked with for the most part were having a good show. I only heard from one having a bad day. Linda brought some of her quilted items, and I think she was surprised she made a couple of sales. (I took two tables this year, so I had more room than I needed. Linda used one-half a table.)
I posted the ribbon cutting on the front page of my website along with a quick note on the show.
