IMHO ... the Mercury dime 1942/1941 (Philly mint) is visually dramatic and as such obvious ... alas this coin is not such an example. My (uneduated) opinion on grade is VF/XF. David

As for 42/41 it looks good to me and even though the images are a bit blurry I can still make it out clearly.

Here is a faked 1942/1 and a small image of the real thing. See if your coin has the notch in the "4"? The images are poor on your coin to tell what is going on there. It does look thicker, but pixelated to death.

If it were me, before committing money to that particular coin, I would want it authenticated by one of the big 3 TPG's. I do not like the looks of the last digit of the date. It may be "ok" but I would want some recourse if it isn't. As far as a grade goes, it looks XF.

Hey coop the 1 is defiantly under the 2 on my coin and I didn't buy this as a 42 over 41. The dealer obviously bought this in as bullion and just missed it.

Check the "4". It will tell you if it is genuine or not.

Anyone notice how close the "1" & 2 look to the crosslet of the 4. The "1" looks like it almost touches it. It could be the pics though. Either way, best of luck to you. I hope it works out for you!

The first coin in this thread is not a 42/41P Mercury, there's no 1. The 1 in this overdate is as bold as every other number- it should look like 19412. It has to be as strong as the date in Coop's pictures, no exceptions- there are is no such thing as a "weak" variation of the variety, it simply is or is not.
Your coin is not an overdate.

Agree, there is only one variant, and it's quite strong.

very questionable.
For that value, send it in.
It'll either be yes or no.
