2013 Coins /W Record Low Mintage Or Potentially Becoming One

Maybe it's just me but anything that takes a hundred years (or a couple of generations) to be appreciated isn't on my shopping list.

If a product hasn't gone anywhere in 5 years then it wasn't a smart purchase.

I am referring only to investment purchases not those as part of a collection. Two different beasts. Collections are for enjoyment and their price appreciation is secondary at most.

I have collections and I have coins purchased for price appreciation.

For those of you want to see some update.... here's the sale figure (as of 2-23-14):

2013 PROOF SET : 786,616 (compare to 2012 @ 794,002). Number of set sold (btw 2-16 and 2-23): 1,621

2013 UNC SET : 353,851 (compare to 2012 @ 392,224). Number of set sold (btw 2-16 and 2-23): 624

2013 Annual $1 UNC SET: 31,410 (bringing 2013-W burnished ASE total to: 210,351). Number of set sold (btw 2-16 and 2-23): 461

2013 LIMITED EDITION SILVER PROOF SET: 40,775. Number of set sold (btw 2-16 and 2-23): 1,405

I am ordering the LESPS set now.

I already got a few sets of the Unc. Dollar Coin Set..... are you suggesting me getting a few more extra?
I am looking at the Mint set and the number is quite promising too....

I like this line of thinking from Mr Foxwoods and SA, that you flip some but you also have a collection you enjoy but also price appreciation.

I am pretty much in the camp that one's coins should, or least buy coins, that will appreciate in value so that you can profit on them down the road.

Now granted, most coins just dont appreciate, you have to contend with silver and gold prices that are flux, and cycles of supply and demand and popularity.

I also agree that low mintage numbers do NOT guarantee that a coin is going to go higher in price. Heck, that also applies to even antiques.

So I think you pick coins that look great, coins that are a unique series and I think you do gauge price action in coins.

That said, I think if someone was every year selectively buying from the US Mint alone, over time they will see one heck of price appreciation in their collection.

It's hard to recommend what's best for someone without personal knowledge about that person's unique circumstances. You will have needs (coin sorter) and ideas (Unc. Mint sets) that are different from mine. Nothing wrong with either person's ideas.

That said.....I do not see the potential for the 2013 Unc.int set and I would defer any funds into another on you list. Yes, the SET has low numbers but the coins do not....many millions of some and billions of others have been minted. The N.A. dollar has pretty low numbers though...but that is also in the Annual dollar set

.. The Annual dollar set has a very low mintage coin in it (maybe two).

...The LESPS has two low mintage coins in it...set numbers are limited

...the pucks are low mintage by definition but probably not on every collector's list yet (they are on mine)

...bullion has potential

...Kennedy set is very interesting but probably more towards the fall time period
