It's not often I run across such a harshly whizzed coin, but this IHC really shows the diagnostics well. At first glance, this "Choice AU" IHC almost appears to have cartwheel luster. However, when you look closer, there are raised lips of metal everywhere--the legends, feather tips, date, even the denticles--never struck that way. This is done by a wire brush on a power tool, pushing around metal over the tops of devices. It's pretty much the 'textbook photo' for whizzing. Edited by DVCollector 03/02/2014 7:23 pm

I've heard of that diagnostic for a whizzed coin but I've never seen an example. Thanks for the pics.

Thanks. Very informative. Question: What is typically used to whiz a coin. I've heard a wire brush, but when I envision this it seems much too harsh. And I don't see any brush scratches in the fields of the coin in your images.

Thank you for posting this, I think without looking closely, it would seem like a no-brainer to pick it up if the cost was right.

Great photos of an often and common deceitful way to move a problem coin! Great job showing the raised edges from the whizzing.

I knew the main diagnostic for whizzed coins but to actually see it is great. Thanks for the pics. Well done.
