This token is identified by Charlton as NS-1E4.
This series had 3 different sizes to the 0 in the date.
This variety is identified as having a 'small 0.'
Of the small 0, Doctor Courteau identifies 4 different
sub varieties. Of these, varieties 295 and 297 have the
0 distant from the 4, whereas varieties 296 and 298 have
the 0 nearer the 4. The 0 on this token is distant from
the 4. Varieties 295 and 297 are differentiated by the
placement of the lower pendent lock (the terminal lock
of hair of the coil. The lock of variety 295 emerges from
the right section of the lower curve of the coil, whereas
the lock of variety 297 emerges from the centre of the
lower curve of the coil. The lock of your token emerges
from the centre of the bottom of the curve of the coil.
Courteau variety 297. R-5. Grade XF-40.
