I just found this Lincoln tonight. What is going on with bottom of the reverse? Some of the letters are doubled on the rim. Thanks in advance. Still Lookin

Looks like something messed with the rim area. What does the obverse side look like?

The obverse looks normal and the letters are raised. There actually looks like an extra rim and bottom portion of letters then another step down (rim) to the balance of the coin.

jay4202472000...I dont think it is a Rim-restricted Design Duplication...Here is one of my pennies I have with that oddity..His might just be PMD..maybe.

The letters are raised and oriented correctly (not a mirror image), so I think I'll stand by "rim restricted design duplication". It seems like the die bounced and landed on the rim. Maybe Mike Diamond will stop by. Either way good luck with it.

The letters do not look raised to me. A closer picture of that area would tell us a lot.

Almost looks like a second strike that pushed the first one away folding it up, but honestly I have no idea at all. The letters do look raised to me you can see the minor shadow they cast.

What does the obverse side show opposite the area in question? (12:00 on the obverse.) An image of that area would be great Steve.

Below the "E" is a curved mark that looks like a smaller version of the one SW of the "C". It makes me think we have something other than "Rim-restricted Design Duplication" because it does not match any part of the design.

I have added photos below. The obverse looks normal to me. The closeup photos below show that there is a part of a rim and then it drops down to a shelf where the portion of the "NE CE" are duplicated. Then it drops down to the regular field where ONE CENT is. The only difference is the spacing between the rim and the letters are. In both places the spacing is narrower. I see weakness in the devices from 11-1:00. It looks like damage to me, but always nice to have a second opinion.

I have not seen this before. I would very much like to examine this coin in person and write it up for Coin World. The extra letters lie within a narrow crescent whose internal margin touches the base of the normal letters. Is that crescent raised, recessed, or at the same level as the adjacent normal field?
