I've heard they just don't care about it anymore and are focusing on more lucrative aspects of the overall business. Slabs probably ate to much of the market for them. Plus everyone always wants what they can't find.
But my feeling is if they were going to do more it would have happened by now

I truly don't think that Dansco feels the demand. The 7070 is not an album that is easily filled by the common collector. It is more of a lifetime achievement to the every day collector. It seems like a daunting task to beginners and very few would buy this album to start out collecting.
Also who has more than one ? Once you fill it, it is not like you go out and buy another one to fill. You keep upgrading the same one. When investigating the company, I found out that it is a small company that makes the bulk of their money making corporate binders for business meetings and trade shows. Companies that keep coming back every year.
I really don't think that they feel any pressure to fulfill what they consider a small "one time" market.

To your original question, first off congrats on deciding to start the 7070! I've been working on mine for a few months now and it's a blast. I'm not even close to completing it but it will be a fun journey. As for the price of the album I think if you are patient you can find one for cheaper, I had to settle for a used one but I found it for under $50. The albums are expensive because of supply and demand (just like everything else). They are certainly the most popular dansco album, and it doesn't seem there are enough to go around. There is a topic in the quizzes, prices and giveaway forum about when the upgraded 7070 will be re-released. Guesses range from this month to the year 7070 so there's a bit of doubt going on. Good luck and have fun!

A filled 7070 makes the mouth water. Probably the most satisfying numismatic accomplishment I have completed. I never get tired of pulling it out and looking at it. Good luck and have fun! I actually competed my set and then got the Dansco album. So, when I got the album, I never had to stare at empty holes. This is the way I complete most of my sets.

They are hard to come by but if your patient you can find one for cheap. I finally came across one this past week for just ten bucks.

I'll see what my local shop has maybe Thursday. They don't sell many albums. It's where I bought my 7070 years ago. Might get lucky.

Quote: ... why again is this album so scarce? Type set collecting became very popular several years ago and the Dansco 7070 was the best album if that's the way you want to collect/store your coins. I personally collect my type coins in slabs (NGC or PCGS) mostly because some of those coins get expensive and I want the proof of authenticity/condition/grade.

You should be able to find a used one with one of the national dealers. Try sending some emails out and see if one turns up.

They are definitely out there for cheaper, but it is just sort of a right place at the right time sort of thing.
I can also see your arguments about why Dansco might not go back an produce another 7070, but it seems a little illogical to me. After all, if their main business is producing these other binders, why sell/produce coin books at all? I would also wager that the 7070 is one of their best selling books so why not produce them? Manufacturing them is probably more difficult since they require the different sized holes on many pages. But this could easily be offset by pricing them higher as it is clear people are willing to pay more for them.
I figure/hope that it is just a matter of them waiting to do it right and make sure that they have all the varieties they and the collectors want to have in there. So fingers crossed that they will be here soon!

Who knows if they have made any albums recently. What we see for sale might just be the supply chain draining.

I wouldn't be shocked if for the older albums what you see is what you getting at this point. There's no shortage of most of the albums
