Your opinions and comments are welcome on this 1795 flowing hair dollar. It is the B-5 variety, one of the two most common for the type and year (R-1, together with B-1), characterized by the presence of a 'bar' behind the head. It is ex Bowers & Merena ca. 1987. The coin is a light grey in color. You will note that it does have some light marks on the bust. Thank you

Nowadays, this is the type of coin that really scares folks unless it's been certified. Can the provenance you cite be absolutely verified?
Presuming it's genuine, I'd say it'd grade right around VF-30.

I would say that's a big old YES Germanic, the overall collection of later 18th century and early 19th century US coins that you have been posting is truly amazing. I wish I had the funds for such rarities. I'm assuming the late 80's was a good time for you as most of your investments seem to stem from that time period, no? Please keep going into the vault and posting. Again, lovely sir. Thank you for sharing.

dsfreeworld, thank you, yes. I can consider myself lucky to have bought those coins back then in the late 80's and 90's. This particular example was lot 214 in the B&M Everson & Faught sale of June 1988. It cost ca. 1500 + expenses if I remember well. A lot of money back then. I had a hard time convincing my young wife, but at the end she acquiesced. Having spent some time during my University years in the US, I grew fond of the country and wanted to keep in touch somehow once I retuned to Europe. Collecting US coins was my way of keeping in touch.

Seeing a coin as beautiful as this one raw, and knowing that the owner can physically hold the coin by its edges and have a perfect uninterrupted view of the full coin - That in itself puts a smile on my face. It's a wonderful coin, and I'm glad that you've been able to fully enjoy it raw for all these years!

My apologies, I'm not familiar with the OP, and didn't read into his initial post thet he was the actual purchaser back then. Mea culpa.

Cuss, don't misread it sir. You're new to the forum and especially if you have not followed the OP and all of his offerings for our eyes, like Moe, I would have also questioned the authenticity and wanted an expert who can spot fakes to make a comment.
You're correct in what you stated, there are A LOT of counterfeits out there nowadays and the Chinese in particular seem to be making good replicas of early American coinage.
Germanics, you have my admiration. Keep 'em coming!

Lucky Cuss, you are spot on asking about provenance. I would be scared to death to buy a coin like this without it.

Amazing coin!
I'm not going to embarrass myself trying to grade it.

One of the most beautiful coins ever minted anywhere IMO. Amazing. Both portrait and eagle look primitive yet sophisticated. Thanks again for sharing your remarkable collection.

A most impressive collection indeed GERMANICVS Giving the appearance of underlying luster among the protected devices, I'd say an easy VF30. A slightly weaker strike it looks like.

An absolute beauty! I'll say VF-30. If you got em', keep em' coming! I need a bib though!
For the record, someone saying something is X,Y,Z, doesn't make it proof or "absolutely varified". No, I'm personally not doubting GERMANICVS, but, someone's word is certainly not proof. Lucky Cuss, I don't know the OP, but I've seen many of his other posts. He is well envied by me, I'll say that!
It's like the 4th of July only with coins. Oooooooo. Ahhhhhhh.
