Ok there are several 7070 threads out there. No one can get one without paying an arm or leg. So does anyone know why Whitman hasn't made a comparable album? Seems like they could take some market share right now with that move

I heard the reason Dansco isn't making more (which is probably the same reason Whitman isn't starting to), is simply because you buy one album and fill it up. It is a lifetime book and they will only sell one to any given collector. You never try to fill another, simply just improve on what you have.
So there is no real financial reason, but I agree with you, if Whitman put out an album, I would buy that very fast.

Whitman does very well with their 20th century album. It should be a natural transition into a complete type album. I know more collectors can afford a 20th century album than a 7070, but it would be a great time for them to be heroes and put out a album close to what so many collectors are looking for right now. That may even sway over long time dansco fans (me) to them. I already own a 7070 by luck, however, I think if Whitman came out with a similar album I would switch over. At least I would know they are still around for updates and such

I do not buy the "one and done" excuse (I know it is not your excuse, DB, but I had to comment this time). New collectors are born every day and they may eventually want that album. The fact that there are at least ten people on this site alone looking for a 7070 tells me there is demand from people who have not already bought one. Sure, those ten get their album and never buy one again, but next year there will be ten more. I think the real issue is that there are only ten, when Dansco wants 100 to cover costs. So, make the ten and raise the price.

Quote: I do not buy the "one and done" excuse I've been thinking about this argument since it was brought up. I was lucky to find my 7070 cheap, but I also have the Whitman 20th Century Album for myself and 1 for each of my kids. Would I of bought 3 more of the 7070s instead of the Whitmans if they were available and update? Maybe. If they were available maybe I would customize mine (something I might partially end up doing anyway)buy adding more pages for commemorative halves and dollars. For the kids maybe include a state quarter/ATB date set or a few blank pages for their favorites.

I suspect the obvious reason. Whitman is now owned by Harris. This company now specializes in Books, coin books preferably, but not all. Also, coin supplies. If you go to the Whitman web site you would see a massive amount of books. Although they stick to Folders and Albums, under names like US Mint, Harris and Whitman, they well know many peopls once purchased one or more, stall on additional ones for a while. However, with books, such as thr Red Book, Blue Book, etc. and most of the others everyone wants, Why worry about just one Album.

A 7070 is a great STARTING place. You can always take a coin from that and slap it into any other album as you upgrade.
Odd why they aren't making them now. When I bought mine 10 years ago, it was the last on the shelf. They had trouble keeping them in.

This takes more money out of buying the actual coins to fill the holes. I admit I would like one. But I am patient. If I cannot get one for a price I want to pay, I will go another route like 2X2s in plastic sheets. I see another person posted a thread where used 7070s are available at 15.95 plus 6.00 shipping. Call me cheap (and I am sure someone will)... ain't gonna happen ...well - unless I also ordered something else from them to make the cost lower. I bought the Wizard coin albums awhile ago for this very reason. It saved me a LOT of money from buying Danscos and I was able to use the saved $$ to get some silver proof Ikes! Now if I displayed my stuff - then Dansco is definitely more aesthetically pleasing - so there also is this (more expensive ) side of the argument also. And if I had money to burn, then likely I would... still go cheap and buy more coins!

I am sure I have said this on another 7070/Whitman thread: I was a Whitman folder guy at the beginning, and I got a few Whitman albums at the start, but they included coin varieties that I didn't consider varieties. Dansco included or excluded coins that fit with me better. Same was true for 7070/Type Set. I looked at both, and they also included coin varieties that I didn't consider varieties. So, I used pages to hold 2x2 flips and put together my own version of a type set. I will include a few other coins in my Type Set this week: a 1787 Fugio Cent and a 1837 Feuchtwanger Cent
