I've seen that coin for sale somewhere, and I cannot find it argh! I don't know but it may well be from a different place, like a celtic coin or ancient stater from somewhere else. It's in amazing condition. What is the it's weight and dimensions?

It's pretty small. I'll have to measure it when I get home but I think it's around 5 mm. Not sure on weight either but I've seen ones in similar size say 0.04 grams

Anybody else have any ideas? Also the guy I bought this from was sitting on a good amount of them. About 25 to 30. He was selling them for $25 a piece. Is that a good deal? Should I maybe invest in more?

I have been searching but still no matches :(, so it's 5mm and 0.4 grams heavy. I think in this condition it sounds like a good value, however identification will help this out alot. So I wouldn't get more until, this is I.D.'ed, however it's up to you.
Or did you really mean 0.04g, because that's minute.

Yep, I meant .4 gs. Don't know how that extra 0 got in there. Lol Thanks for checking. I really appreciate it. I have been all over the web and still no luck. I saw this same coin on ebay a couple months back, but the guy had no info on what it was or anything of the such.

Ah, that might be where I saw the coin. I definitely have seen it before, I've just looked at so many coins I can't reverse my trail. I will keep looking, I've been searching under different civilisations-because I'm sure I saw it under a different one than listed. Such an illusive coin :), does the seller have an info from their source? At least area of the find?
And lol at the thought of a 0.04g coin, it would be quite the feat to mint yet alone use hahaha.

That would be a very small coin. I actually think I might have one that would fit that category though. I'll post a pic of it. The seller was selling them for a friend who had them. You know how it goes. Lol. I can call and ask If the friend has any info.

My guess is that it is an Indian gold Fanam. I have never seen anything like a comprehensive reference on these; Krause World Coins provides just a small sample listing only.

I posted these awhile back. Back in 2001 I used to purchase them at $6.00 each and sell them between $8.00 and $10.00 each. I used to purchase thousands of India error coins from a seller there who offered me the gold fanams, and he claims they date from the 1700's, and honestly, I wouldn't know how to date them. I used my electronic gold tester a few years ago and each fanam tested at 14KT. The Cent is pictured to show just how small these coins are.

The first pic looks like it might be an elephant fanam from Nazarbar. But the ones I've seen don't have the cross work pattern on the back.

keepcalmandcoinon: With a lot of the Indian coins they have a frozen date or the designs are used for hundreds of years. So the original design may have been created in the 1700's, it doesn't necessarily mean the coin is from that time period.
