So in the process of upgrading, I sold my 1811 ex-jewelry VF half eagle. I originally paid $1950 for it, so I probably made a a very small profit or so after fees....which I am more than thrilled with.

So I happened across it again from the seller, cracked out of the slab.....advertising as a sharp XF with some cleaning(no mention of ex-jewelry, or PCGS grade of VF). He also says it has GREAT luster and minor marks....hmmm. I am used to seeing crack-out artists on ebay, but am a little more annoyed when it is the coin I just sold....and an expensive one at that. Anyways, it will be interesting to see what kind of profit he can make selling it this way. Seems quite risky to me, but he probably has a shill bid backup...His photos kind of make the coin look terrible too, which is good because at least he didn't photoshop it. thoughts?

The new pics look awful. Bad decision by the seller.

Yeah, that is what is so confusing. His explanation makes the coin sound way better than it is.....but his photos make it look way worse than it does in hand.....I am really interested to see how it plays out on the final bid....I heavily suspect a shill.

I'm going to guess $1,800-$1,900.

I agree with Canadian-Banknotes. No matter what he advertises it as, it still looks a lot worse in his pictures and will net him $500-$700 less than what you sold it for.

The current "low" bidder P***6 (3) has 100% of his bidding activity with this Seller. So.....more than likely he is the shiller for this Seller. Be interesting to see when he goes to bat again. If it doesn't reach what he paid you for it then it'll end up going to the shiller. The shiller will magically stop bidding once it gets to that magic number.

If you want - I'd be happy to report it myself. ebay does not take kindly to sellers doing crackouts, I've gotten a few taken down, as I know SuperDave has as well.

If it sells for less, buy it back. get it re-slabbed and sell it again lol. In effect he would of just given you money :).

I'd wait and if the bidding gets over what you sold it for, then report it. I don't see how he expect to make more off it buy breaking it out of the slab, I'll always pay more for a slabbed coin.

Someone correct me if I am wrong but I believe ebay changed their policy on cracking out coins so they no longer pull a coin if it is cracked out. This so very unfortunate, it really is a case of buyer beware.
