For dug coins, they do look great! IMO, don't waste your money slabbing dug coins.

I think they held up exceptionally well for dug copper. Copper mostly corrodes quite badly. Yours are very nice. Congratulations on an exciting find!

Very nice piece, the 1803 especially.

Thanks all! The soil were they had been 'hiding' is somewhat sandy and has good drainage, so that kept them in better shape than would be expected of such dug coins. Fun finds for sure!

Quote: I found these two Draped Bust large cents a few years back while metal detecting. I had to read that a couple of times - awesome find!

Those look great, all things considered! The soil chemistry was very favorable.

Amazing find! Both attractive despite being ground finds! It must be an amazing feeling to dig up something that cool... I would be like: BTW to CCF

Thank you for the kind comments everyone! I have found many coppers over the years, but these two along with my 1786 Connecticut Copper are the best of the bunch in eye appeal. Coppers do make for exciting finds even if corroded though.
TJsCoins, I'm pretty sure I did a 'happy dance' when I dug them up. I'm just glad no one saw me performing. :)

Lovely coins!
I live in SE Wisconsin and am also a metal detectorist. A year ago I found a bronze 1810 Norwegian 2 Skilling in a local park. How it got there I will never know, but it, too, was well preserved by the soil.
I would love to find a large, early US copper, but I don't think there are any around here.

Hey Paul, that sounds like an exciting find! One of the fun things about the hobby is that you really never know what is under the coil. Congrats on a fun find!
