Anyone please help me figure out this mint mark? It looks like a repunched miny mark to me. Please help me figure this one out. Image: IMG_3067jeff1950Dmm1.jpg30.69 KB These are the best pics I've gotten in 2 days. It's really tricky getting that shot Gary. Maybe eventually...one day I'll get a something that is right on and will clear things up. Maybe deterioation. 2 new pics: Image: IMG_311950mmA.jpg19.45 KB Image: IMG_31950dMMB.jpg58.78 KB Edited by thingee 07/24/2007 7:19 pm

Uummmmm..............now why would I want to do that? If it is an RPM I'd really be surprised because it would be my first nice find.

Helpful hints:
1. When showing a mintmark as a possible RPM, it does no good for us to wait for the obverse and reverse photos to download. Only the mintmark photo is necessary to determine whether it is doubled. Likewise, if you have a possible doubled die, only photos of the doubling need be shown. Unless the doubling is extreme (like with the 1955 cent doubled die) a photo of the entire side of the coin would be worthless in making determinations regarding doubling.
2. If there is any doubling on your mintmark, it would be in the lower serif. The lower serif in your photo is completely in shadow. The apparent doubling would be that the vertical bar of the D gets thicker toward the bottom of the mintmark. This could be a normal effect of the beveling of the mitmark, but it could also be doubling - impossible to tell from the lighting direction you provided. Try lighting what you see as doubling and make sure it shows in the photo before posting it. I cannot see anything more than youcan see in the photo, and I'm sure if there's doubling on that mintmark you can see it far better on the coin than in the photo you posted.

Thanks for that Coppercoins. I eliminated some of the pics I posted. I was pretty lucky getting a nice close-up pics of this mint mark. I hope I can do just as well again since I pretty much stink at it.

Hey thingee try to get a better pic. I tried to clean this one up and this is all I get. I don't see anything on it but I think it is the photographer lol try getting a shot of the other side. you want the doubling that you are seeing to be on the other side and not in the shadow Gary

I've tried for better pics at different angles, but too blurry. I'll try again tonight or tomorow.

I was starting to think it was deterioration. I will keep this since it's my only pretty 1950D nickel. Thanks for the advice and comments everyone!
