vermontensium, I have had nightmares about weird mint marks, but this is quite strange. And I am awake. How do you explain it? An engraver with a hangover? I get dizzy just looking at it! Nice find, no matter what.

I wonder what the quality control standards were for mintmarks at this time? I'd almost be tempted to call a coin like this an error coin

Didn't someone here post that Q David Bowers was offering a $1000 donation to the numismatic organization of your choice for a high mintmark on a 1972 or 1975 nickel?
I have been looking but haven't found one yet.

It's not the Mint Mark that is something to wonder about, but what that Mint worker had for Lunch that day. Then did he actually drive home?
