I've been spending the last few hours staring at these two coins, can anyone confirm that these are DD? First is a 1998D.

This is a 1993D with what I think is a DD on the bottom and a regular one on top of it for comparison. I noticed it on the top of his head.

Die Deterioration show on the side of the devices that are closest to the rim. On your coin the left side of the devices are showing the Die Deterioration on LIBERTY. On the Date side they show it on the right side because the rim is closer in that direction. On the motto it is on the tops of the devices as they are closest to the rim in that direction. I'm seeing that on your 1998-D cents image.
The 1993 shows it toward the rim on the motto. Sometimes you see split plating on the motto or on the reverse on the outside devices toward the rim. But it is common on the Zincolns because of the shallow design of the devices.

Congrats on the milestone!

Thanks for the info, I'm really learning a lot! Was really hoping I had come across some DD but I'm glad I know the difference now! I just found another 1992 which I imagine is another good example. Just when I thought I stumbled on something awesome! lol.

Yes that is more of the same Die Deterioration damage. Date toward the rim on the right, LIBERTY to the left toward that rim.

Seeing the beard reminds me of the discussion on the missing last digit and the three differences I found besides the date being different on the 1992 & 1993.

Being a coin roll hunter, I always set the 92's aside with fingers crossed in hopes of finding the "AM" variety. For some reason, the 1992 D seems more prone to this type of deterioration than some other years. This is just an observation.
