Just won a coin 2 days ago on ebay. Seller is in Canada. I didn't see any shipping info yet today so I messaged him and nicely asked what the shipping schedule was, because I never bought from Canada before and wasn't sure how it worked. He messaged me back and he said, no worries, it takes from 4-10 business days and the package was already shipped via air mail. Does that sound about right? There is no tracking number, and it's not marked 'shipped' in my purchase history. I messaged him back and thanked him and asked if there was a tracking number, but haven't heard anything back yet. It seems to me that the seller would have to protect himself with some kind of tracking for a coin of value.

Shipping with tracking here in Canada is EXPENSIVE so if your item is cheap, it's free shipping or you pay a very cheap shipping don't expect to get tracking. I've sold several cheap items to US, sent without tracking and never had any problem.

Thanks for the reply. It's a fairly expensive coin, more than a few hundred dollars, and the shipping charges were $17. Would the $17 buy tracking? Sounds like a big risk the seller is taking with no tracking.

Ed.. The tracking number would only go as far as the border, once it enters the U.S. the seller can't track any more.

OK, thanks for explaining.

At least the seller could have marked it as 'shipped' on his selling page. That was a little unusual.

Edit: On a side note, I just got some plastic coin tongs from China. It was a .36 purchase w/free shipping, and that package had tracking from departure in China to delivery right to my door. What a bizzaro world it is

17 dollars would definitely pay for registered mail to the states. 4 - 10 business days is fairly common for sending something across the border. Although I have never seen 4 days! I usually tell my buyers expect delivery in a week and a half.

Thanks. Frankly, I have very little confidence that the coin is even shipped until it's in my mailbox. No tracking, plus the seller didn't even flag it as "shipped" on his selling page......all he did is say, 'don't worry, it's in the mail.' Some people do business very strangely. I can't lose any money, but I rather have the coin.

The seller sells a lot? Because if it's not marked as shipped it means that he's not using ebay label.
Btw 17$ is ok, depending on insurance, weight, etc could vary but it's a fair price.

Seller doesn't sell a lot, but you can manually flag an item as shipped. At least here you can, not sure about Canada. All the seller has to do is go to his selling page and on the right side of the item line is a 'more actions' drop down, and one of the choices is 'mark item as shipped.' Plus you can manually add a tracking #. I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt here because the seller might not know about that. Thanks. ed

I had only one problem getting coins in from Canada, and contacted the seller. Actually, I got two coins that cost more than the two I bought. I asked if he needed them back, and about the two I bought. He said just keep them in place of the others. Unfortunately, he was having serious problems. He explained he had just hired a new assistant, and everything went to the wrong place. Reading his feedback, my 2 1 oz coins for 2 1/2 oz, silver, was minor. People had bought kg silver coins, and bars up to 100 oz. Some were out thousands of dollars, so my two Am Eagles instead of 2 1/2 ounce Canadian wolves was minor. Things happen even to experienced sellers. But, if you paid with Paypal, it should be covered.

I'm not worried at all about the money, I know I'm covered. I think I got a great deal, and just really want the coin. It's out of my hands, either the seller sent or he didn't. We shall see . Nothing to do now but hurry up and wait

Waiting is very much like watching paint dry, not much fun. Bu, anticipation increases the joy once it arrives.

I too have a coin coming from another country. This one from Portugal.
It too was registered, but only tracked while inside that country.

I'm hoping it gets here . . . . .

At least you have documentation that it's in the system. I'd be thrilled with that.

That's why I asked you if he sells a lot. Maybe he's not aware or not used to mark the items as shipped. Who knows....

Yes, thanks. I sent him a polite message a couple of days ago letting him know that he could mark the item 'shipped' on his selling page, with instructions on how to do it. Haven't heard anything yet. But he did tell me in the first message that it's shipped, so I guess that's just as good. Seller is just not good at communicating. I tried to engage a conversation a couple of times, but heard nothing. The thought of having a $900 coin sitting in my mailbox makes me a little nervous. All this of course assumes that it's actually "in the mail."

A couple of potential concerns I have about whether the seller actually mailed it: 1. The seller didn't like the $ he got and will re-sell it at some point. 2. Was fishing for value so he could sell it locally.

"If" the coin arrives and is as advertised, I'll definitely give good feedback, but my comment will warn future buyers.
