Here is one well-circulated 1921 Mercury dime. It has seen better days, but it's still a keeper. What say you about grade?

just a details grade assignment. its pretty well beat up and carbon spotted from someone trying to cover the cleaning up with a poor AT attempt. Value wise, it nets down to an AG3 maybe a push towards G4 but not really too much more than that IMO

Value wise, it nets down to an AG3 maybe a push towards G4 but not really too much more than that IMO Thanks dsfreeworld. That does help. I agree, it's in bad shape. I'm using it to fill the slot in my album. It was not harshly cleaned however, other than placing it under running water and using a very soft toothbrush to remove the surface soil. Unfortunately the coin was in that condition when I dug it up while metal detecting. There isn't good drainage in the soil where it was found. I appreciate your assistance with the grade. Thanks again.

I would agree that this piece is no better than G. I would buy this for AG price, considering the bad rim damage on the reverse.

The last one is in EF grade. That's about $400+

hmmm....I disagree with the forums opinion on the grade of the 1st coin. This coin has solid VG details imho. There are vertical lines in the reverse fasces, and the obverse merc has plenty of wing detail. Looking up similar VG8 graded coins usually have the weakness in the reverse rim. G4 and G6 examples have no vertical lines in the fasces, and lacking this example's obverse detail. This example has lower eye appeal and may not grade problem free....but its a solid VG coin.
