Does anyone know if you block a bidder, if that also blocks them sending you a message?

I had someone ask if I'd ship something to Russia, and I replied that I would not. They're now arguing with me over it, saying they don't know what my problem is and that all I have to do is put it in an envelope and send it. I've had other people ask, get a no, then proceed to bid and win anyway, and rather than have to go through another sale cancellation and re-auction, I just blocked this one.

I'm hoping it also blocks messages because I get the feeling that if it doesn't, he's going to continue sending them.

Have you lost mail to Russia in the past?

I admit that sometimes I (privately) get bent out of shape about shipping (some guy wanted $8 to ship a $1 coin from the USA to Canada!), but I understand why some people won't ship to some places.

No, I don't think I've ever lost a coin shipping overseas (although I've don't think I've shipped anything to Russia yet).. but others have, and personal circumstances dictate that I simply can't afford to take the chance right now. Usually I wouldn't have a problem with it - I've done it many times before - but these aren't usual times for me. Problem is, I shouldn't have to explain myself to him as if I'm doing something wrong, which he's trying to imply.

It's why I won't ship without the global shipping program unless it's to a CCF member right now, and that's still taking a risk due to the postal service. It just makes the overall risk smaller. That program irks a lot of people; it has its pros and cons, stated elsewhere, but without it I wouldn't be shipping overseas to anyone at all except members here. Russia is not on their list of approved ship-to countries, though, which is where the trouble started.

Other sellers only ship to the US or lower 48, or within their own country. I wonder if this person gives *all* of them grief if he sees a coin he wants..

Im not sure if the email gets blocked too but I suspect it does as I've never heard from anyone again after placing them on the list. I know your listings become invisible to them which would prevent them from finding you to contact you, but if they already have an email from you it may be possible to respond that way

It is your choice to ship, or not to ship, to certain countries. If the prospective buyer is bent out of shape over your decision then that's HIS problem. Stick to your guns and don't give in.

Yeah, "just stick in an envelope and put a stamp on it" ..... and then see how fast they file an INR complaint.

You'd be surprised though at how many Sellers still ship that way.

I believe there's a box you can check, so blocked people cannot contact you. I remember seeing it.

I've lost coins going over to Russia. I'll only ship there using Registered Mail which costs an extra $13, which is what the Post Office charges for the service. If they have any problems with the cost they can complain to USPS about the hefty and ever increasing fees.
Anything to or from Russia should get sent registered.
