I thought this piece had superior eye appeal for the assigned grade. How do you think PCGS called it?

Well, it looks MS63 to me and you say it is a tad bit under graded, so I would say PCGS gave it MS62+.

Edit: it is a very beautiful coin!

A vote for MS64 here. The pics make it appear to be a strong 64.

I think I see some luster breaks.
Ergo I'd go with AU-55 or -58.

Unless it's just you images.

I think the "luster breaks" could be smudges on the case. MS 64

I need to find more challenging coins. Most graders were right on!

This piece stood out as exceptional in a case with several other St. Gaudens twenties in PCGS MS-64. Liberty's face is well-struck with no hits, luster is very strong on both sides, and there are no hairline scratches. There are just a few tiny ticks here and there; the sun disc on the reverse (which is usually a tick magnet) is particularly mark-free. The slash across TRUST and other wispy lines visible in the photos are all on the holder.

MS-63 or 64 was my first impression. Good to see that PCGS felt the same.

I was thinking MS64 there is a fairly good sized hit on the reverse at 8:00 though, so I was thinking PCGS may have graded at MS63, as you said it was top end for the grade it received, but I agree it's a strong strike and lots of luster!
