Pictures aren't good enough to confirm but ICCS must've had a very good look at it so I'm guessing it's probably Design in 6. Also to the community!

Could be just the thin die crack running through the 6 before the chunky chips developed on the die.

I don't believe ICCS attributes a "partial" design to 1946 50 cent pieces. Although it's difficult to tell from the picture, this might be a partial.

For that kind of money I'd want a later stage example, the attraction of this variety is the appearance of the hoof in the 6, why would I want to pay $1000+ for a coin that merely comes from the same die as the "hoof through 6".

What if the intermediate stages were much rarer?
Things get weird with errors turned pseudo - varieties.

I hope that value with be given to partial design...... I have 3 1946 coins one with little to almost no clash.. one with a partial clash and then one with the clash all the way through the 6..

AgCoinAu... ..of your 3 ..if possible... .....and where would this one of mine fit in the "Design in 6" varieties.. ? Is it a mid or late variety with the long die crack and the design in it..? Thanks..

IMO.. that definitely looks like a design in 6.. and with such a long tail on it I would suspect it's pretty late...
I will try to put up some pics... perhaps in a day or two... will have to pull them out of storage...

There are at least five dies with a similar chip out of the top of the 6. I am not sure that the one in the E-Bay auction is the precursor to the eventual 'design in 6' since the '9' to '4' spacing does not seem wide enough.
Devlec that's a pretty nice coin.
