I've recently started to collect classic numismatic literature to build a library. While at my local coin shop today, I noticed some books on a shelf opposite the cases. Long story short, I picked up a 5th edition of Judd's pattern book and a 1st edition of The Fantastic 1804 Dollar for $2.50 each. Both are in high G or VG condition. The Judd book also has a 1979 price supplement in it. Just thought I'd share what I thought was a nice start to my library on the cheap.

Nice pickups, westgawolf! Numismatic books can be very pricey due to low print runs and very few printings.

Classic Coins:

Exactly my thoughts, I've seen a few books now and then that I really wanted but the seller wasn't willing to budge under $200 each, which is definitely something I can't pay. $2.50 each is spectacular though.

Congrats on your acquisitions westgawolf.

I too am working on my personal library. I have 51 works so far and my list to acquire is growing.

The book guy on here though is westcoin as he has a vast numismatic book collection. He and I are working on a list of reference books available to numismatists.

and finally to the Community

Thanks MV! My current goal is to get all 100 books/catalogs/periodicals on the NBS wiki Top 100 list. These two finds are a nice start.

to CCF! Always great to see a new member that also believes in the power of knowledge. I do have a large numismatic library, maybe not as large as SAP's library, (though mine is all US coinage material save for a few currency, Byzantine books and some digital editions of world book guides).

Your NBS goal is a very admirable one a tad expensive - but well worth it, IMO. The price you just paid is very good, I grabbed another 1st ed. of the 1804 book myself for under $5.00 shipped off ebay last month.

Right now I've been concentrating on Bowers & Ruddy/Merana Galleries "Rare Coin Reviews" I've less than 25 issues to complete the entire set I think.

Contact MeadowView for the list of US Numismatic literature we've been compiling.

Thanks for the welcome westcoin. I like the top 100 list as a goal because it's a finite set in the same way that coins are. I suppose you could say I'm "filling the holes" in my library by using this list as the complete set.
