I have 3 questions about this 1834-Pi 8 Reales:

1) Is it a 1834/3 4 over 3?

2) What's the strange thing under the cap?

3) Is looks over struck on another coin, is it rare for this serials?

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts!

1) Could well be, that is a documented variety.

2) Difficult to say what the exact cause might be, a gouged die, perhaps. I have an example of this same year and mintmark that also exhibits some extra metal where a device meets the field, the nature of which is equally hard to attribute. As an aside, the San Luis Potosi mint during this period was purportedly actually casting its flans.

3) Again, referring to my specimen, I've had the opinion expressed that it looks to be double- or over-struck.

Maybe somebody added these "teeth" intentionally because they don't look like die crack.

PCGS grade this piece as an 1834, I just look at the "4", it looks like over a "3". So I think this piece is an 1834/3

Given how indistinct the snake's body appears to be where it crosses the eagle's breast and leg, I'm very surprised that this coin received better than an AU grade.

Yea you can see the weaker striking around the center on both sides.
