After my last post and all the responses about the fake 1857 Flying Eagle cent I got back from NGC, here's the other one I sent in to be graded. I bought this on ebay last year for $122 in an auction with a fuzzy photo listed as a "Brown AU". I couldn't be happier with this it. The obverse is full red and the reverse a red and brown. Nice pickup, Paul. I love the obverse of this coin, and I think it's underrated.

Well, maybe you lost a buck or two on the fake but you've got a $700+ coin here. Not a half bad consolation prize.

Wow, such an appealing coin for just over $100! With this coin, I think you actually a profit on the cents (even though one was fake).

If you sold it, you may be able to get back your money on the fake and make some money on this one.

The only place this coin is going is in my safe deposit box! It's the pride and joy of my U.S. coin collection.

Thank you for your comment. I count myself very fortunate to own it. One of the first coins I ever purchased was an 1858 LL Flying Eagle. I bought it back in 1970 when I was only fourteen. I loved that coin, but one day a few years later it and another coin disappeared from my coin collection box. I never figured out who did it (I think it was one of my brother's friends but couldn't prove anything), but I've always wanted to own a high grade Flying Eagle. It's #2 on my list of favorite U.S. coin designs ( Standing Liberty quarters being #1).

I agree, I would keep it. It would be the pride of my collection, too.

Excellent coin and congratulation on the NGC validation of the grade.
read the thread on the counterfeit example ... this coin hopefully makes up for it!
