Another capped die I bought and wanted to run it by here to make sure it's real. This one's kinda different and has a funny railroad like outer rim. Weight 3.02

All is good. Struck through a late stage die cap and partial collar error.

Nice find a deteriorating die cap coin example. Looks like it is a partial collar as well. First time I've seen that.

I only have 2 struck through die caps. Both are Lincolns. My 1980 was struck through a very late stage (thinnest) die cap. The edge is normal. The other one is a 2000 struck through late stage die cap, and it also has a partial collar error. I asked, but never really got an answer of whether or not it is common. I was just trying to figure out if a capped die has anything to do with the coin not being struck fully in collar. Just wondering if the two errors are coupled together often?

First time I've noticed this for me. But most of the ones I've seen don't show the edge of the coins.

Given that a capped die by definition involves two stacked planchets, I've no trouble believing that many will display a railroad rim.

What does the coin weigh? Is it normal weight or heavier?
