For 16.50 not too bad a deal. I will attempt to get some of the gunk off with Verdi-Care...

Nice coin ... DDR for sure.

Politely suggest you try some acetone first ... that will remove all organic gunk.

The green crud I'm not sure about ... perhaps verdicare?

Nice doubling for sure. Still showing so prominent after 3/4 century.

To me It looks good as is. Has character. But I'm curious to here how it cleans up if you use Verdi-Care, acetone or both.

52 Raymo, I would suggest that you try acetone first and then the Verdi-Care. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Verdi-Care should be the last step in re-conditioning a coin.

Good call ... this is a relatively tough coin ... pleased you chose to back off after trying acetone.

FWIW ... I have found 168 Philly mint 1939 Jefferson in my roll searches ... 311,200 total coins searched ... and have never found a DDR-01.

This is the second one I've bought and will go in a 2x2 along with the other. That one's in much better shape. I never found one in the wild while I was roll hunting for my Jeff collection. Thanks David !
