These aren't great pics but should be ok, I have this in AG. It looks better in hand though. The reverse has some wear patters indicative of a bent planchet but it's not bent. Thanks!

If FMV according to Numismedia is $450 for this coin in G4, what would the assumption be for AG3? I've always thought it would be roughly half to two-thirds of the G4 price. Thanks.

According to completed Heritage auctions. AG3 go for about $200 give or take a bit.

I would say AG3 is about correct - worn for sure but major details still visible. Early US coinage is also my preferred area of US numismatics.

You may be interested in trying to attribute the variety of your early quarter (by Browning numbers). I have been using the Heritage completed auction archives for that purpose. Its a lot of fun.

I'll agree with the grade of AG-3. As to your statement of wear patterns, I believe the attribution helps to explain. Your coin is a B-1, R-2. Tompkins states that examples with full dentilation are extremely rare or non-existent. After looking at a few high grade pieces, I've noticed that they tend to show more weakness in the areas where the wear on your piece is most evident.

Just a theory, but I believe the weak dentilation played a role in the wear patterns on your quarter.
