1832-Bust-Quarter---Variety-And-Grade?

Considering this as a purchase as a filler.
Obviously somebody had quite a day and decided to carve up the coin. What percent of list should I pay?
Numismedia says: F-12: $110 VF-20: $198

Thoughts on grade?

Raymo: Those were my original thoughts but it's so cheap that it's hard to resist. I mean I'll be getting it at 15%-25% of list based on what the grade is.

I'm seeing VF Details. It's B-1, based on the location of the arrow fletching over the 2 in 25C, and the arrowhead locations. Neither of the two varieties for the year are rare.

I'd only consider this one a bargain at maybe 25% of list, as badly as it's defaced. Which is to say, I wouldn't go over $50 even if I were interested in such a coin. It's like, well, 50lbs of dog food for $5 is a great deal....unless you don't own a dog.

Just me: I would save my money for a non-details coin...

I'll echo and say not worth it. Save $25 a month for 6 months and by Christmas you'll own a fantastic example

Hmm.. very tempting though, if I'm buying it for $30 do you think I could flip it around $40-$50 on ebay later?

Don't buy it. It will nag at you, and it will be hard to get rid of.

Only with a great deal of luck. Consider how universal the "I wouldn't want it" sentiment is in this thread - you'll be hard-pressed to find a buyer.

I wouldn't buy it unless it was <$20. It is a heavily damaged common date and the detail (while VF) is so torn up I couldn't stand to look at it. Now some collectors aren't as bothered by damage as others but man, that piece is a rough one.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'll skip on this one, especially since there'd be no way to lessen the boldness of the scratches. Thanks for all the opinions.

I think that you're making the right call. A little bit of graffiti is OK if the price is severely discounted, but someone really did a number on this coin and it is not in collectible collection.
