You posted in the Error and Variety forum. Are you looking for something particular or is this supposed to be in grading?

I think the OP was on a thread in the Error and Variety forum, and clicked "New Topic" on that page. That way the post will go under the Error and Variety forum when posted.

A close up of date might show an over date variety? I found one on a 1867 2 cent I bought years ago and got a good price for the variety when I sold it.

(Over date coins are a 19th century happening.)

Come on Coop, that's a repunched date not an overdate. (Old labeling?)

Repunched date is the modern term, a long time ago pre 1960's (yep I'm getting positively ancient) the term used was over date, meaning one date over the same date, trouble is - it's too close to meaning one date over another different date, which is how it is used today.

P.S. So far there are no overdates in the 2¢ series. Only repunched dates. Both the 1864 over 1865 and the 1869 over 1868 have been disproven as not overdates but simply re-punched dates of 1865 and 1869 respectively.
