Just got this one in and it appears to be pushing a 65 which would join the other two Top Pops. Thoughts on grade please? I have a slabbed/attributed 63 but this one has it beat in the shade (or sunlight) . PG Edited by paleoguy45 05/23/2014 4:04 pm

I think that mark on the cheek would keep it at a 63, along with some chatter in the fields infront of the face

I have it at 63 also. That one hit on the cheek is a shame. What do you have it attributed as? '81-S is about impossible to attribute without a real close up of the mint mark (or in hand with a lot of magnification). Then it's still iffy for me...

No way that will go 65 with that gash in the cheek. It's a 63.

It's a 54B (EDS - no die chip next to tail feathers). BTW, I broke it out of a 64 NGC (unattributed) slab. A little MS70 and it does look like a 65. It's much more lovely in hand.. Have another one coming next week that has a totally clean cheek. Russ and I and collaborating on these..

I think it stays 64, unfortunately. That reeding hit on the cheek is at Ground Zero for eye appeal. Bullseye.

I wouldn't say it is. 65, moee luke 63, there is a large bag mark across the cheek and there is a lot of other bag-marking too.

Welp... NGC, in their infinite wisdom, deemed it a 64... We'll see what PCGS thinks soon.. PG

I'm at MS64 as well. PCGS will be even tougher on it.

Thought I saw that crack in the chicken. Regardless it is still a nice find. Why not just leave it in the NGC 64 holder. PCGS is gonna down grade it for that cheek hit? That is a deep bagmark on an otherwise gorgeous coin.

It's all good. I will be VERY surprised (honestly)if it doesn't come back a 64. I have three of em now and counting... Love this VAM. PG

I am at MS62. Those unsightly cheek indents look rather grievous to me, unfortunately. If you bought it cheap, that would be the reason why.

I'm at 63, but the picture could be making the coin look worse than it does. Happens to me all the time.

It's a beauty, but the reed cuts in a focal point keep it at 63 for me. But I've seen PCGS slab Ikes with similar reed cuts really high, so one never knows.
