Found this in my pocket change today. I know it isn't a rarity. My question is more on the type of error it is. I assume it is an off center. Just was not sure since the reeding to the right side protrudes onto the obverse of the coin. Also the "IN" on the motto seems to be spaced closer than usual. Is this just due to wear over the years? I have attached photos and I hope they are clear enough.

It is not off-center since all detail is present. Your quarter has a collar clash, that is what made the reeding impression.

Though common on most denominations, collar clashes are more easily observable on reeded coins such as dimes, halves, and quarters.

A collar clash, huh. I would say it is the first one I found, but as I mainly roll search Lincoln cents and nickels I may have run across many others thinking they were off centers. I appreciate the feedback. That said, how can I tell the difference between a collar clash and an off center on non reeded coins? I am fairly new to coin collecting(Less than a year)so I have a ways to go before I get a firm grip. Although I have, in the short time, managed to fill my Lincoln 41 and up and Jefferson books 38 and up 90% complete with AU and better coins. Even managed to run across all but one War Nickel and a 1950 D Jefferson nickel which the local coin shop suggested getting certified. Came back MS65. I know the last of this post is off topic but you guys understand the excitement of finding hidden treasures.
Rest in Peace

This doesn't exactly answer your question, but it's the best I could find.
