I have received some uncirculated modern American coins as a birthday gift. They came from Littleton in plastic bags. Should I take them out of the plastic bags or leave them in? I don't have folders for a lot of these.

The coins are a mix of a set of 2009 lincoln cents, a sac dollar, a pres dollar, jeff nickels, State Quarters, and Kennedy halves.

The 2009 cents concern me because they are not individually in bags but all together in one bag.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks.

What type of "plastic bags"?

Best bet is usually to leave them in but with pics we could help better

Go and buy 2x2 cardboard holders, plastic coin flips and put the coins in there. But you can keep them in the original plastic packages they come in, too - maybe except for the 2009 cents. The "littleton packaging" will never increase a cent in its value anyway.

Just a kind reminder: it's all good to receive coins from Littleton as birthday gifts, but if you are the one buying coins for yourself, remember that Littleton is very overpriced; not a good place to buy from.

I agree with Matteproof.
Cardboard holders are inexpensive and do the job.
Plastic flips are more expensive and favored by some.
Either may be put into the original bag, but they will not
contact each other.

with the suggestions above to put them in individual 2x2 holders, but another option is to place them in coin tubes for each denomination. Of course it depends on how many you have. If you only have a few coins then stick with the 2x2s. Make sure though that when you purchase 2x2s they are made with mylar, which does not contain the dangerous chemical PVC.
