Here's an 1807 Bust Half Dollar recent arrival now freed from the NGC holder. It's the more common 50/20 O-112 variety.

This is a tough year. The 1807 bust half had a higher mintage (750K) but seems more expensive than the draped bust 1807 (301K). Maybe one of our experts can explain that.

I'd appreciate your opinions on grade and any comments. I'll post the NGC grade in a day or two.

Nice year. Coin appears problem-free and pleasing. I'll say High-End F-15.

Mintage may be higher but Survival rates for both the 1807 50/20 and 1807 Draped bust are estimated to be 3,000 although the 1807 50/20 is 5 times rarer in MS-60 or higher. Prices for both types are the same in the F range but the 1807 Capped is more valuable starting at VF.

I'd say VF-20.

That statistic about 1807 halves is quite interesting. I really have no idea what the reason for that is.

I would think the Draped coin was more widely saved in good condition as the last year of issue, and the Capped coins circulated more heavily as a result.

This!

1807 CBH is difficult to find and my favorite date for the series.

Because of weak strike issues with this date VF would not shock me. Nice coin!

I would grade this confidently at VF-20. It's a beautiful coin, I love CBHs!

Very nice coin, cipster. I would actually grade your example at VF25.
I think there is enough detail remaining to justify that.

I can only confirm what you already said - the 1807 CBH is difficult to find. There seems to be at least two 1807 Draped Busts for every Capped Bust offered.
This is one of the coins I regret not buying when they were more accessible 20+ years ago. My examples are both quite low grade.

I'm at vf 20 only because of the small rim dings or I'd be at vf 25.
