Hello all!

Wondering if I can get some help with understanding the value of "damaged" coins. Recently received about 100 United States Mint Proof Sets dating back to about 1985, but unfortunately about 50% of them have some type of corrosion or weathering on them. All of the coins are basically brand new still in the boxes never opened and were stored in a basement but I took some out to look at them and some of the coins have turned different colors. I know nothing about collecting coins so I dont know if these coins are still worth keeping or if it effects their value at all but any advice or help is greatly appreciated!

It might just be toning which may not decrease the value. Also, some proof coins will get a hazy/cloudy look to them. A lot of it depends on the eye appeal of the coins. Pictures would be needed to give you accurate advice though.

What do you plan to do, keep or sell?
Keeping them you could learn more about their value.
Selling them you could loose money or make money.
"Education is the key to collector success" is the basics about CCF.
Seller/buyer/collector same rule applies, Education!
Hope this helps.

A side note, it is tough to ask a new member to post pictures. Read first then learn.

I believe that those came from the way they were stored. I would believe those spots would decrease the value. Thee sets are not worth much to begin with, so you may have a very hard time selling them if that is your intent.

Ohmy! These above pictures are a start but, an obverse and reverse picture of each coin is needed to grade. If you are going this route one set of each coin would help. Not a multiple of coins all in one in one post.
