Poll Question
Okay, the Dollar Coin Alliance guy told me that they were hoping for the COINS Act to pass by the end of this year/this Congress, but it may not be until early next year/next Congress.

So, even though polls like this have been done before, I am going to do an updated version.

When do you think the COINS Act, which will replace the $1 bill with the dollar coin will pass?

Poll Choices
 Late 2014
 Early 2015
 Late 2015
 Some other year
 Never
 Other (Please Specify...)

The ironic thing is I have 9 one dollar bills in my wallet and I hate that they are making it bulge out, a stack of singles is not a nice thing for me but 9 one dollar coins... I think I would hate more but hack maybe if it was coins everyone would end up wearing suspenders...

Suspenders are cool!

My wife paid for a $3.00 parking pass with a $20.00 bill and got 17 $1.00 coins back (2 Sacs, 1 SBA and the rest were presidents). She was so mad because they didn't fit in her wallet and were too big for her coin purse, so they went loose in the bottom of her purse, weighing it down immensely. Don't like 'em, don't want 'em.

They would be better off bringing back the 2 dollar bill!

With Congress involved it will take a while.
And I agree with Dar, when we switch to the $1 coin also release the $2 bills from the Federal Reserve vaults.

Eventually the Coins Act or similar legislation will be passed but I don't see it happening for at least a decade.

Canada has had a dollar coin of similar size and shape to the US ones since the late 80's, and now a 2 as well, and they seem to be well received.
I now live in Germany, where 1 and 2 Euro coins are common. I think that the US must have some of the lowest value circulating coins, at least in the developed world. Does anyone out there have some statistics on that?

As long as the US keeps the one dollar bill, the dollar coin will never take off.

Amen mcshilling,it just takes the gov't the will to withdraw the bills. The US mint has been complaining about the price of the cent for years, and from what I understand the RCM just recently did an audit and stopped production - basically telling people to get over it!

I am the biggest advocate for dollar coins. They make sense. They save a [REDACTED]-load of money in the long term.

However, I am convinced that our politicians are inept when it comes to this sort of no-brainer decision (and you'd think they'd have a lot of experience with "no brains").

Also, the dollar coin is presently too big. It *should* be the size of a dime (and a dime was worth a dollar back in the 1960s and no one complained about bulging pockets).

people just don't want to give them a chance because they don't like new things. and when people complain about how much they weigh, is a very lame example of why they are bad. what is a dollar coin weigh in comparison like 7 grams more... come on...

She should of had a $5

Nothing bothers me more than people who go to the bank on Friday and cash their checks and get a bunch of $100 bills and then proceed to go to the store on Saturday morning and spend their new $100 bills on a $5 purchase at 9AM doors open time and expect the store to have change for them.

Get small bill from the bank. That is what a bank does.

Same thing at coins shows.

Everyone lines up at open time with a pocket full of $100's and go to the first dealer and spend $5 and expect the dealer to make change for them.

They should make each year with a silver option,, like the half dollars did, then it would be collectable.. gold would of been ok too but out of my price range....

Um, if your taking cash as payment, it doesn't take much foresight to know you will need small bills for change.
