Hey guys, I'm planning to start some serious high volume dime hunting over the next month or so. I've made some good friends at one of my local branches, so I should be able to pick up 5-10 boxes a week (or more if I have time!). I am going to be focusing on finding pre-67's (and silver 68's) as I would like to accumulate a reasonable stack of junk dime silver to add to my collection. I also will be keeping an eye out for the lucrative 1969-Large Date (est. $11,500+ in F-12), and any other unusual dimes that I come across (errors etc.). My question is, are there any other dimes that would be worthwhile collecting from 1968 onwards that may bring a small premium on ebay either as singles or a large lot size? I have been using CoinsandCanada as a guide and I am unaware of any other valuable errors in 1968+ dimes. I would love to hear from you guys if I should look out for any other varieties! Also, if there are any fellow dime collectors in the Vancouver area, let me know if you are looking for any particular dates/varieties and I will be sure to keep an eye out! *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I am in the Metro Van area as well
2000 p is the only one I look for in the newer ones, but the real questions is, are you going to keep the Nickel coins 68-99?
From my experience over the past year of dime searching, #1 boxes are crap, maybe its just my luck, but always solid 100% crap rolls full of new coins. I have only found 7 silver dimes, in all my time, and all of those have been in the past month. 5 to 10 boxes is a ton of coins, I assume you have been roll hunting for awhile as well.
Can you tell me where you dump so I don't pick up your tailings.

Hunting dimes robbed me of my enthusiasm, very hard to find anything of value. Last year about 4 or 5 silver ones, no good errors and no scarce ones. Nickels on the other hand are easier to see and to handle plus they're fun with a lot more surprises. Hunting quarters isn't to bad, lots of things to look for. Good luck

I agree with Pennyman, searching Dimes is very hard on the eyes, and if you switch back to quarters or even nickels they seem GIGANTIC.

I wasn't planning on keeping the 68-99 dimes, seeing as how the melt value is only approximately $0.04. I've tried quarters for a while but I found that the rolls I received from the banks that were hand rolled were often short.... so any profit from silvers is wiped out. Heck, I can remember getting several rolls that were all 3 short. those scumbags.... I agree with you guys, nickels might be the way to go. I'll try my luck at dimes for a few weeks and keep you guys updated. [P.S. I use TD Banks since they have lovely coin counters. I normally pick up at one of the North Bby branches and dump at Willingdon branch.] What are some of the best finds you have made from nickel roll hunting?

My best finds nickel hunting: 1951 dot on neck US 1942-s Silver War Nickel (was my first silver find) Complete roll of 40-60's 12 sided nickels Thanks for the heads up on your banks, I don't use TD so I am safe.

I live just outside of Vancouver. I have done reasonably well doing dimes, but better doing nickels. Dime boxes I get are all 2000 and later, so they are out, unless one of my friendly bank tellers says they have a box of customer wrapped rolls. I stick to buying lots of customer wrapped rolls (dimes and nickels), which makes it difficult to do large volumes. Nickel boxes are ok but not great, average one or two 12 sided per box so far, and a few older ones too.

I find on average 20-30 silver Canadians every year in the US, and thousands of 1968 and newer. Over 200 silver Canadians in six years. I like finding them just as much as Mercury dimes, of which I find less.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors... Roll hunting since '77 Dirt fishing since '72
