Today I swung by the bank and managed to pick up three $2 bills, one Series 1976 and two Series 2009. I never came across a Series 2009 so I looked it up once I arrived home and to my surprise discovered that they printed some Series 2013 notes late last year. Has anyone come across any yet or spent them? I'd love to see some pictures!

Thanks for the link John1! I wonder why the Fed decided to order some more?

Good for you jgfindring! We need more shop owners like you who will actually give them out in change! I'm trying to do my best as a consumer by going to banks to pick up $2 bills and spend them!

Quote: Because I keep spending them and giving them out in change in my shop! Thats good to hear, but have you ever also considered giving out half dollar coins? There isn't much point of giving out dollar coins as long as the $1 bill is still around, but halves on the other hand, still make more sense over two quarters. Anyway, keep those $2 bills circulating, and consider circulating halves.

Fox, of course I give out halves and dollar coins also. I built my cash register drawer with places for all of them. I don't actually keep any one dollar bills in the drawer, they are all deposited in the bank daily. I find 99+ % of my customers love getting halves and twos in change, and when they see the note on the counter explaining how much the govt would save from dollar coins, they don't mind the dollar coins.

Wow! People actually "prefer" the dollar coins to $1 bills? I was always thinking I would be afraid to try handing out dollar coins instead of $1 bills, as much as I would like to, if I do end up getting a cashiering job. If it were my own place, then I would do the same thing you are doing, and use the dollar coins and remove the $1 bills from circulation. But that wouldn't be up to me. The night manager my parents know at our local Kmart told me "No" when I asked her if I could use $2 bills and halves if I got a cashiering job there, and supplied my own, but then, when I explained to her that using $2 bills and halves would cut down on quarter, and $1 bill shortages, she told me "Well, maybe, as long as no one complains about it" But I'd hate to risk asking about dollar coins when we already have $1 bills, because I fear, one complaint, and my $2 bill and half circulating effort goes down the drain. Other than that, I have nothing against dollar coins, and I wish they would get rid of $1 bills already.

Fox, I didn't say they preferred them, I said they didn't mind them. They love the halves and twos, and accept the dollar coins.

I read someplace that the largest distributor of $2 bills is the Monticello complex in Virginia. They give them out as change in the cafeteria, gift shop and ticket office, I grabbed a bunch when I was there. It is the only place in the nation I have ever received them in commerce.
Like half dollar and dollar coins they are seen as useless and unused to the public these days and are basically a novelty.

While I haven't been able to find any series 2013 $2s locally in the Twin Cities, I did buy some from a person out east at face value so there are plenty out there...somewhere. This was around mother's day and I've spent all but 1 of them as of now. My main source/stash for $2s is still being worked on from the special holiday order from the FRB late last year. All of those were 2009.

I got one today when I asked the teller for her twos. In SE michigan. It's an Atlanta Fed series 2013. More EF than AU so I will throw it back into the pond.
