By request, here are some assorted coins I dug metal detecting. All coins were also cleaned by me.

Remember, all of these coins were covered in a 150+ year old crust when uncovered. None of these coins (besides the large cent) was readily identifiable before cleaning.

Hope you good luck continues.

I'm guessing you live in the eastern US. Those of us in the midwest (I'm in Wisconsin) could never dream of finding coins like that. I'm jealous.

4 and 5 looks like it's a British coin of George II. I don't know what it is, but looks copper so I'll say a halfpenny or a farthing. If it was unrecognisable, you did an excellent job cleaning them, I could take a guess at what it is now

Interesting finds. You might want to try taking a look at some cleaning threads on the ancients boards for tips - I dont know what these are worth, but I hear colonial stuff isn't cheap, so it might benefit you. You'll also find threads about conservation and removing Bronze Disease.

Great coins Ben! And good job cleaning them! Patina intact

I have conserved a fair number of ancients and agree that the cleaning threads from the ancient section may helpful to those wanting to know more about cleaning. As a side note I have not heard of bronze disease affecting early colonial copper. Maybe a few hundred years more sitting in dirt cause more potential for bronze disease.

I just dug a George ii. The coin shop guy said he can only make out the last number in the date as a 9. I am assuming its 1739. Do you agree? I see you have one
