Hello everyone,

I am not familiar at all with world coins, so I have no clue what this is. It seems to be in decent condition.

Is it worth grading? What is the value/condition in your opinions?

Thanks very much

What you have there is an 1816 great britain half crown. And a very nice one too. They call this one the "bull head".
Here's some info on it... http://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/...-duid-314925
Might be worth getting it graded.

The obverse looks as if it may have been cleaned at some point, but overall how many are you going to find with this little wear? Also, what a wonderfully flattering depiction of George III.

My thoughts exactly. I always thought the "bull head" series was a rather ugly interpretation of George III. He probably had the engraver beheaded. And cleaned or not, it is still a great looking coin. I rarely ever see one in this condition (except on ebay of course). I would not be surprised to see this come back with an XF or even AU grade.

Nice coin!

Unlikely since he was not even in charge at the time.

In 1811 The Prince of Wales ( later George IV ) was named Prince Regent due to the Kings final battle against mental illness.

The Prince had less interest in governing than his father. The Prime Minister Robert Jenkinson likely had more influence on the design than anyone else....

1816 was the year of the Great Recoinage - so this was the first of the new series.
