I got this coin on approval from Chris Victor-McCawley, who grades under EAC standards. In hand there is just the slighest bit of rub above the ear, on the curl above the shoulder & above the L in LIBERTY.

The photo shows a line extending downward from the nose, this is almost invisible under a 10x loupe. It is so close to invisible that it's hard to tell, but it looks die related. Whatever it is, it's impossible to see without holding the coin at the right angle under magnification.

I'm hoping ya'll can help me out with a market grade, & possibly what you think it's worth.

It's quite possibly market acceptable as MS62 depending on how obvious the wear is, otherwise AU58. It's the famous 58/62 paradox.

Misaligned dies - top of the obverse and, to a lesser extent, the top of the reverse, are both weak. Note the weak stars.

EAC45, 58 in a slab.

Edit: IMO, it's worth more than he's asking for it. If you don't, just mail it to me and I'll pay him.

I looked this one over some more after I posted, & made out the check last night to drop in the mail this morning. Mr. Victor-McCawley graded it as an EAC45+, I agree with the majority here, market grade 58. After thinking about it, I may want to submit it to PCGS, but I still haven't got an address from SuperDave, so it may have to go next time.

The coin is not MS. It has been oiled and brushed...That is relatively normal for old copper but this coin shows signs of wear I'm getting into the AU-50 area.

I could agree with the oiled part...whether it's olive oil or some other, I'm unsure, but the surface has an oily appearance that dealers often use to enhance eye appeal. I'm not sure about "brushed"...don't know what Foundinrolls is getting at there. At any rate...AU50-55 from the pics. Nice coin...I'd certainly find a spot for it in my collection.
