Hello, I'm new to the community. I live in Charlotte and have been collecting American coin since I was a child my father got me started. I mostly collect pennies. I recently came across a Sacagawea dollar coin that I'd like to know more about. It's a 2000 and looks like all the others except it's silver colored. I like to more about how this happened is it an error or can the gold coloring wear off or any ideas would be greatly appreciated. *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

I moved your post to a better section for your question. Can you post pictures, and possibly get a weight of the coin?

The gold colour doesn't "wear off". It might be a "wrong metal" error, but it's far more likely to be a privately-plated coin.

I have seen the manganese/brass cladding take on all sorts of color, from almost siverlike to deep golden brown. I think it is just a quality of the cladding.
Is it a 2000D ? In 2000, they also released a millenium set that had a Sac dollar in it that was struck on a burnished planchet.
Pictures would indeed, help.

I think it could have been a pocket piece..

Back in 2000 when these came out I carried one for a couple of years as a pocket piece. As the coin wore it did take on a silverish color. I'm not sure why.

Currently I'm carrying an Adams dollar as a pocket piece, and it does turn to a more lighter color as I carry it. It's certainly not "golden" anymore.

I think that it is just heavily circulated. I have seen a couple like that.
