I have finally started messing with my photography skills and if I can lock it down, I'm going start a nice little flow of my collection for grading but, first, how is this photo? I'm posting over in the photo section as well for tips from the masters so, hopefully, I will get better! So how does this one grade?

Very nice coin and photo. You just need to fill the photo with coin instead of background.

Very nice coin and photo. A few nicks, but will go with 65.

Raymmo,
I agree but my problem is if I crop and zoom to fill the space, I start jumping up in the digital noise and lose perceived sharpness. I think I'm going to need to start saving for a macro lens or something.
Unless the image of the coin itself is big enough on it's own and I could crop and make the image size the size of the coin? Does that make sense? :)

I comfortable with ms65.
As for the picture just crop it a little closer to the coin. What kind of camera are you using? My pictures turn out just fine (at least in my mind they do) and I use either an old 4mp camera, or my 5mp cell phone camera. I just take pictures in highest detail setting at the highest res I can then reduce the size with photoshop. Heck half the time I hold the coin by hand.

MS65 RD on the 38. Nice! Your photos look great. It looks like the photo has enough resolution to crop successfully. Nice coin!
LincolnGuy, the 16 is great too.

Okay, got some more tips in the photo section for lighting but I was able to cut back on my sharpness and it allowed me to get a better crop. Better?

All you need to do is crop down to just the coin, the pictures are good. I also suggest using a white background so we can get an better idea of your white balance/lighting.
MS-66RD, nice 1938!
