My personal opinion ... this one is tops! Minted from 1926-39 at all three mints, it's not exceedingly rare (except the final year). It just seems to have it all and includes a glaring social commentary that escaped the government censors of the time. The Indian warrior stands in the West with his arm outstretched to the East in an obvious "halt" gesture (no more white men thank you). I don't have one yet in my collection, but I hope to remedy that soon.

Certainly do agree with SeatedNut. I posted this pic from my collection once before so sincerely hope it's not too redundant & doesn't bore anyone:A-Gorgeous-Commemorative-Half

This is truly a classic design, and not terribly expensive as commemoratives go; but my choice for the "must have" commems would be 1) Antietam; 2)Grant and 3)Vermont. Unfortunately I don't own any of those. I'm sure others have different favorites.

I agree with those choices. I would add a forth to my list. The forth would be the Hawaii/Cook commemorative.

I agree with SeatedNut! I really like the Oregon best! Maybe I am biased from living in that beautiful state long ago, and always look forward to visiting my daughter and friends there.

I was dirt broke when I lived there, but always wanted one on these commemoratives (actually a whole set). I finally picked up a 1926 a few weeks ago at a favorite coin shop here in Massachusetts! (and its been only 24 years since I moved away...)
Rest in Peace

This is an area of collecting that has caught my favor. I think that Indian is saying halt to Europe and immigration.

Both coins are beautiful. The Oregon Trail Memorial coin, whether toned or bright white are wonderful examples of the older commemoratives. Bobby has a sidebar topic on "Commemorative History" and if you want to see fantastic coins, just visit that page. Thanks SeatedNut and chasinva69 for allowing us to see some of your great coins. Personally I go to the Commemorative History site quite often and love those coins, just can't afford to collect them though. Thanks to you also, Forum Dad, for the History page.

Ludeboi121,

And you don't have to go far to see them. Check out the navigation menu in the top left of the page. Click on "Commemorative History" and the hyperlinks to all the U.S. Commems. There is a great history on each, including final mintage figures. And great pictures, too! Check out the Texas and Illinois Commems ... a couple of my other fav's!
Rest in Peace

And 100 years from now, there will be one of the Caucasian man holding his hand out to stop hispanic immigration.....

Funny how history repeats itself....

By far an away one of my favorites! I would however have to add the Stn. Mtn commem to the list. Heck, I like the coin's design and it's helped by the fact that I live there and walk around it's base every weekend!

The both look good, but I like the San Diego design much better. A lot of the commemoratives are attractive, the mint should take some cues from them.
