Here's a Continental $1 copy that first caught my eye: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1776-UNITED...em35d936001fThe seller says that he doesn't know if it's authentic, so he priced it at a starting bid of $200. Looking at his other offerings, there appear to be some Chinese copies of an 1864, 1876-S and 1878-CC dollars. He doesn't question the authenticity of these.

I sent the seller a message. Curious to see if and how he responds.

Yeah, funny how his liberty and two Trade dollars are the exact same color and luster. Might be easier to fool people if he didn't post them all together! I don't think I'd ever buy something over $20 from someone who didn't accept returns. If you are confident I your product and accurate in your descriptions, 99.9% of sales won't get returned anyway. Even the guys selling polished/cleaned coins as "GEM BU" accept returns!!

Those are some awful fakes. Even if you say "I don't know if these are authentic" it's still illegal to sell if the items aren't clearly marked "COPY".

I sent him a kindly message when I spotted them. I suggested he weigh the "dollars" and/or take them to a local PCGS/ANA authorized dealer to confirm my observations. I'll let you folks know how this plays out ...

Maybe he's just not the sharpest tool in the shed. All the coins have pictures on a scale that shows the weight being nowhere near the original weight. The Trade dollar is odd by 10 grams!!

wheatchaser140 .... While that could be the one, chances are it may not be. They do appear to me to be the same type of copies that were produced in large numbers, back in the l960-70's. Their crudely cast appearance gives them a deceptively aged look.

keepcalmandcoinon ... I failed to even look at those added weight pics as the fakes were so obvious to me. These are the lightest weight fakes I've seen ... "lo-Cal" ! The seller has to be clueless then, no?

Here is our conversation via ebay: ME: Hello. Sorry to inform you, but this coin, as well as the 1864, 1876-S and 1878-CC are all Chinese counterfeits. That's why no one has placed bids on any coin you're trying to sell. I would take them down before they get reported. Just a heads up. SELLER: THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION WHICH I WILL REMOVE IMMEDIATELY. I DID NOT REALIZE THAT THESE WERE CHINESE COPIES. I APPRECIATE YOUR EXPERT OPINION. SELLER: Dear darth_underoo, I AM CURIOUS AS HOW YOU OBTAINED YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE ON CONTINENTAL AND RARE COINS ? ME: Your auctions were being discussed on the Coin Community Forum. The experts there called them out. SELLER: THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION AND I DO WANT TO LIST MY COINS AS DESCRIBED WITH REGARD TO THERE AUTHENTICITY. HOWEVER, THE AUTHENTICATION PROCESS ALWAYS ALLOW FOR COINS TO BE EVALUATED BY A TEAM OF PCSG MEMBERS BEFORE A CONCLUSION IS REACHED NOT BASED SOLEY ON ONE PERSON'S VIEW. ME: Believe me, the guys on the CCF know what they're talking about. They've been at this for decades- far longer than PCGS has been around. Here is the link to the discussion: https://goccf.com/t/181680SELLER: THANKS FOR THE INFORMATION, BUT I HAVE BEEN CONTACTED ABOUT THE SALE OF THIS COIN TO ANOTHER SOURCE. HOWEVER, THANKS FOR YOUR INTEREST AND INFORMATION BUT IT SEEMS OTHER COLLECTORS ARE INTERESTED IN THE COIN THAT YOUR SOURCES REJECTED. ONE MANS REJECTS ARE ANOTHER MANS GAIN. THANKS AGAIN. - qaz714 To which I replied: Well, if you want to go that route, then go ahead. But the right thing to do is throw them in the trash! He hasn't responded back yet.

Checking his feedback shows a Trade dollar he sold back on June 16th that looks questionable. That may have been the one he used to "test" the water. It sold for 100$ and he got good feedback.

I had told him, too, so he at least had two opinions. I just think he needs to get better educated about coins and will give him the benefit of doubt. He did post the weight of his items. Perhaps, he'll even join the CCF and learn along with us.

It sounds like he is in negotiations to sell the coin to someone who hasn't "rejected" it. Hmmmm.
