I have found an old ionizer machine (new actually) from my father's stuff that my mom had stored, she gave it to me. Although there are variations to this smell which I like more than others. It is nostalgic for me. However, I am glad that I found this thread because I have a used Whitman album I purchased because I prefer the older ones/vintage ones if I find them. But the smell in this thing goes beyond "old book" to almost moldy. I started filling it and then I took the coins out because I just couldn't enjoy it. A blend of various volatile organic compounds being released over time from the book materials (paper, glue, ink, etc). They are probably doing more harm to you than the books. With that being said, I just love how my Dansco albums smell. Thinking about it is what I do whenever someone tells me to go to my happy place.
