OK, this is kind of weird. So I bought an uncirculated 1953-D Franklin, and after I took it out of the flip I realized it had a scratch. I'm going to have to describe it because I couldn't photograph it successfully. It is: -only visible at certain angles/lighting -running across most of Franklin's portrait -more of a hairline than a scratch, but distracting So my question is, is this acceptable for a lower uncirculated coin (you know the 60-62 range) or if I was to (hypothetically) send it into a TPG, it would get a details grade? Here is a rough sketch of the obverse, the scratch/hairline is in orange.

I'm actually serious. That is just a drawing because I couldn't capture it on camera.

Looks like a slight off-center strike as well! Cool find!

Guys I'm serious. Here is a picture of the REAL coin: Yes I know you can't see the scratch. So anyway, considering that there is a hairline that is exactly the same as the orange line in my sketch, would it this coin get a details grade or a problem-free lower uncirculated grade? Can someone please give me a helpful answer? I'm not joking.

I think I worded this entire thread strangely. Sorry for confusing everyone. I'm going to post again is a far less specific way in the Main Coin Forum.

I really like that coin in the sketch. Looks like a gunshot wound to the head. Can you blame us for messing with you?

Quote: Can you blame us for messing with you? lol not really. I normally have a better sense of humor than this, but the scratch is making me think in circles. Glad you like the sketch. That was a really quick one.

We would really be amused if you could make a handmade sketch of the reverse! The reason you aren't getting much response regarding the scratch is that there is no right answer, it's up to the TPG whether or not they will knock it down or not. Now get working on that reverse sketch!

Just a quick 2 minute sketch of the reverse: And here is an unfinished doodle of a Barber obverse I did a couple of days ago: Any requests? I'd be happy to provide!

Awesome. Perhaps you can send the sketches to TPG for grading! HA HA. Thanks for amusing us (well at least me).

You know this thread is an instant classic. Perhaps the moderator can post the best parts of it in the "just for fun" forum.

Jimbucks, have you opted in for the General Discussion forum yet? I don't think I've seen your username around there. I bet you'd enjoy it.
