I have a guy with 30 morgans and 3 Peace dollars he wants to sell. I'm meeting him in the morning. All of the Morgan dollars are xf-au and I didn't see any super coins. They all seem to be common dates. How do I figure out what to offer him? I'm sure I'm not supposed to pay him full gray sheet for these coins? Or maybe I am? I dont know. I need Some of the dealers on the site to give me advice. Thank you

Depending on grade $20 upwards, pics will help

No pics. A friend put me in touch with the guy. He said they are all raw, but the 2x2's have grades on them. All xf-au. I want to be fair, but at the same time dont want to pay retail. I dont reallt care for lower grade coins but if I could get them cheap it would be ok

At the LCS I buy from the Peace dollars in XF/AU will be $20/$25 and the Morgans in XF/AU would be $30/35 for commons. Neither have come down a lot since silver moved down. Others here will say they pay below melt for anything silver. Better date Peace or mint mark coins will be slightly higher.

APMEX is paying $27.34 for 1878-1904 Morgans in XF. Use that as a guide.

I would stay in the $20 to $22 range. If any looked clean, polished, scratched or stained I would drop down.
If any looked real good .. Good luster and eye appeal ...then I would go to $25 to $28.
If you can ... Look at each coin. Put them in piles. Problem pile, good pile ...better pile. Maybe pay $16 ... $20 .. $25 ... For the coins in each pile ... Adjust as you
Make sure it feels like a good deal to you .... or walk away.

1921 Morgans maybe a bit less since they are so common.

...with both of the previous posts. Coin and pawn shops in my area sell raw circulated Morgans for melt + 5 to 10 dollars, so they're obviously paying less than that for them. I'd try to find a middle ground between melt and retail, that way you both win. If you cherrypck, you shouldn't be concerned about paying near the upper end, but if you're willing to take them all, the seller shouldn't gripe about accepting somewhat less than that. The "pile" method advocated above is an excellent idea that will allow you to structure the purchase as warranted.

If I were you, I would brush up on my grading skills before I met him. Some of those coins are NOT the grade shown on the 2X2

Looks like the original purchaser of those coins paid way too much judging by the prices on the 2X2s. Might complicate negotiations to buy them. If he wants too much let him walk.

Most of those are VF, and probably cleaned. Pay melt and not more for them

I would not even bother to show up to look at these crappy coins. Too many better alternatives.
