Poll Question
For most of my U.S. coins I have two sets, my primary set and a second set that gets the old coins when I upgrade the coin in the main set. For the moderns, my primary set is housed in Dansco albums that incude the Proof only issues and my secondary set is in Dansco's that do not include the Proof issues. There are some series that I am partial to and thus have three sets, the third set in a display board that is wall mounted, such as Wheat cents, in a re-issued Whitman coin board set, a Mercury dime set wall in an original Whitman coin board, and my downfall, Indian Head cents as follows- set 1: Dansco album, fine or better, 52 out of 60; set 2: Dansco album, any grade, 47 out of 60; set 3: a Littleton folder, any grade, 30 out of 58; set 4: an NGC registry set, MS-62 or better, 14 out of 61; set 5: A Capital Plastics 8" x 14" display going into the door of a wall cabinet to hold all the other sets and all related books, etc., fine or better, 30 out of 60; and set 6: An original Whitman coin board wall mounted, any grade, 52 out of 58. All wall mounted coin boards are in custum teak frames with protective glass over the coin boards/coins. So have I gone overboard, or do others do this too?

I can only handle on set of each coin. That's partially because I have like 8 sets going and I try not to buy a coin I'm going to want to upgrade later. I noticed your sets have a different total number of coins. What are those 3 IHC that are missing/added?

Goofed on my totals a little. The Whitman wall and Littleton are basic sets, no varieties except the 58 large and small letters. The Dansco sets add 69/69 and 86 v 1 , v 2 to add two coins, The Capital plastics leaves out the 69/69 that Dansco counts, but keeps the 86 v1 and v2 and adds the 73 open three and closed three for the same total count. The NGC registry set leaves out the 69/69, includes both 86's and both 73's, and breaks 1860 into round and pointed, to give a total of 1 more to that set.

I am attempting to collect one of each coin. I know it will never be close to complete, so I try to get the best coin I can find. I am of modest means so I do buy alot of duplicates. When I do upgrade the old coin goes in my trade book and will help buy another coin. This has helped me but together a rather impresive collection for a poor girl.
But what do I know?

Quote:I'm Justcarl and I collect 700 sets of Mercury dimes (just kidding - and I hope I remembered right ) Yup, you nailed it. I voted Just one of each set is enough for me. However, a second Eisenhower dollar set in a Capital Holder is on my bucket list.

Just one set is enough. When I find a better coin to upgrade any of my sets I sell or trade the other one.

I'm still working on one set and a long way off from most. However, I do intend to collect multiples of certain key coins, but probably not of full sets. Really, though, like I said in the Gold Kennedy half thread, I think some people worry too much about how others define collecting. It's an individual sport, so however you like to do it is the right way, even if that means rubbing silver polish on all your coins to make them shiny. Well, no, I guess that's always wrong....

On every set that I am collectingI have a raw set and a graded set going. That way I don't have to crack out coins from the big two for my raw set and I can keep really nie coins raw for my ungraded sets.

As I upgrade coins in the set the lower grade coins go into a separate folder.

I voted just one set because anything that doesn't make it into one of my sets goes into the "Spares" Albums

Usually my multiples are from not cataloguing my coins properly and then buying the coin again. Or if I'm upgrading a coin there will turn out to be a second set and sometimes a small third set. Because I'm collecting Canadian year sets (one coin at a time) I constantly have to bring the coin home and compare it with the rest of the set because I like them all looking the same (if one is toned they must all be toned, if one is MS65 they must all be MS65 or close). Then they get sealed into those Aurora/Whitman slabs and one day they will get proper display cases once I get a bigger domicile.

Quote:I'm Justcarl and I collect 700 sets of Mercury dimes (just kidding - and I hope I remembered right ) Slight exaggeration though. I do have a tendency to make multiple Albums, only 12 Mercury dimes but planning on more. Only 10 Lincoln Cents, and usually about 5 of everything else. So far only one Large Cent Album though.

You're an inspiration to us all Justcarl. And you let me tell myself with my 6 IHC sets "No, I'm not compulsive, just look at Justcarl!" And hey, congrats on the Bedrock thing! I missed seeing when they started that, but I suggested something like that be done a year or so ago ( though I called it Community Elder), but you deserve the accolade.
