Well not exactly. I bought a PR morgan I just had to have from a seller with 20,000 feedback. All positive. I receive the box and its filled with packaging, what looks like broken pieces of the slab and no coin. I was upset, but it wasnt a terribly expensive proof. I contact the seller and tell him what happened. To my shock, he treats me terribly. Basically accusing me of having something to do with it as he has been selling coins for 15 years with 1 million positive feedback and it's never happened to him before. I congratulated him on his accomplishments and told him that doesn't change the fact that the Coin was not in the box. I told him I don't blame him, and I'm simply asking what to do in this case as it's never happened to me either. I have contacted ebay twice via phone to ask for assistance as has not communicated with me nor has he been helpful. I supplied him with the photos he requested three times through the ebay system, and he constantly asks for either better photos, a photo close-up of the materials inside, a picture of the broken plastic, then flip the plastic over and photograph it, then the left corner of the box etc. I became frustrated over the last few days to where he has now stopped communicating. Well at least he responds every few days. I just escalated the case because I am tired of dealing with his bullying tactics. Anyone ever deal with a power seller like this before? USPS washed their hands with this from day one saying it's an issue between the seller and myself. I'm shocked with somebody with a reputation like his would treat a customer this way. Should I leave negative feedback? I apologize if I posted this in the wrong forum *** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***

The seller should refund your money, and claim the insurance which I am sure he purchased. This has happened to me, and USPS did a good job of reimbursing me. Good luck, and don't quit coin collecting!

I would suggest that you minimize your handling of the contents and contact your local law enforcement agency. Depending on the value of the coin and/or the involvement of a federal agency (the coin was stolen while being transported by the Postal Service), this may be a felony. Either your local law enforcement agency or USPS may want to have their crime lab process the contents for fingerprints. [The exterior of the package may have been legitimately touched by any number of people, so any fingerprints on the outside would be less useful.] I would stop touching all of it immediately and put the box in a safe place. That way it won't get moved around [possibly rubbing off any prints]. It would also keep other people from accidentally adding their prints and obliterating ones that are there. I let them courier it to me, tracking number so no problem, postal service is a lot of bull

Since the Seller doesn't seem to be too interested in resolving this you might as well only communicate with ebay. Sounds like the Seller is playing the stall game hoping you'll get frustrated and go away. Did the package show any signs of tampering when you signed for it and before you opened it? If not, I'd guess that someone in the shipping department of the Sellers really liked that coin enough to crack it out of the holder, put it in his pocket and put the remnants of the slab back in the package. Not unheard of and easy to pull off if there are no cameras in the shipping department. Nothing surprises me.

Very sorry that happened. Agree that you should just let ebay handle it. The bottom line is that you didn't receive the coin you ordered. Negative feedback is always an option, but imo, a last option. Let the situation play out. You will probably receive a refund at some point. I have begun video taping the opening of packages I receive. Sorry it's come to this, but I want myself covered. If something comes out of a package that's not what it's supposed to be, I want it recorded.

I record all packages I open as well after somebody sent me a pack of gum instead of a coin.

Spott, the usps washed their hands right away with it. They gave me a list of reasons that could've happened, including the seller never sending it. I doubt that as he has 20,000 positive feedback. The box absolutely showed signs of being tampered with. The bottom was removed and resealed. I'll post a picture. I escalated the case to ebay last night as I'm tired of the excuses by the seller. I wanted to leave negative feedback. It would be a first for the seller in all the years hes bbeen on ebay. He's been such a bully from the beginning of this.

This will come down to a case of "he said, she said". You may have to escalate/appeal your case to get final resolution in your favor. People have been known to get the San Jose BBB involved and ebay responds to all BBB complaints. Did you point out the damage of the package to your mailman (or clerk) when you signed for it? If your Seller has experienced this type of thing before it will be documented in ebay's records. Unfortunately, you will never find that out. If ebay does a "good faith" refund (not unheard of) they will be watching both you and the Seller to see if it happens again. Pour over the Seller's Feedback comments and see if you see anything "unusual". Sometimes you have to read between the lines to see what is going on. Good luck.

I called ebay after I made the post. This is the second person from ebay who told me to escalate the case. She said there is more than enough communication and the seller is buying time. I told her I would as long as I dont jeopardize my case and not get back my $1400. She said I ahouldnt worry. Now, the seller has 20k feedback all positive. Should I give him his first negative? He really was an insulting jerk

Don't give him a neg until you get your refund, and ebay will probably delete the neg after you get your refund, that's how ebay works... you get your money back, they think you have no grounds to give the seller a neg. So get your refund, wait 10 days, then neg him.

Don't give feedback until it is resolved and they give you your positive for paying for it! You paid, thus you have the problem package, so they OWE you the positive. Your negative wouldnt be retaliation, but they could still leave you negative feedback if they haven't already.
Either case, better to resolve it first, then maybe leave neutral feedback saying the seller was uncooperative and argumentative about fixing the issue.
Did you report this to the postmaster of your local USPS yet? Nice little barcode right there where they tracked that package and might even know where it became lighter than it was when sent. At least they should be able to check where the thing got damaged and why it wasn't labeled damaged!
