Has anyone ever seen or heard of a Denver dime still sealed in mint cello without a mint mark. See attached photos. Sorry for poor photos but only have big photos that were sent to me by the seller and then reduced in size to post here. If its real any idea of its worth?

What you have is a packaging error. They accidentally put a Philadelphia dime in the Denver package. The coins were shipped from each mint to a single facility where the sets were packaged. They weren't packaged at the mints themselves.

Did not know that. IIRC in 1968 the Philadelphia dime had a P stamped on the obverse by the date, this dime has no mint mark. It will be the weekend before I can post up a close up photo of the dime.

The "P" mint mark did not start until 1980. Most Philly coin previous to 1980 did not have a mint mark, but no mint mark was shown. (Silver War years nickels did have a "P" mint mark on nickels.)

No, the Philly dimes started having a P mintmark in 1980. No MM for Philly before that, so I'd think that your coin is a normal 1969 Philly dime that got mistakenly put into a 1969-D set.

My 2014 Red Book on page 159 states the P was added to the obverse in 1968 and why I thought is was then and not 1980.

The location of the mintmark changed from the lower left of the torch to the space right above the date in 1968. But that doesn't mean that Philly dimes were minted with a P mintmark since then. If you look in the book, you will notice that all Philly dimes up to 1979 are written as, for example, just plain "1979." You will also notice that from 1980 to present, all Philly dimes are written as, for example, "1980P," with the mention of a P mintmark that was added to the coin.

Never paid close attention to how the mint marks were listed in the book for modern dimes, until recently I only looked at 1964 and older coins. Learned something new today so its not a wasted day :)

Quote:My 2014 Red Book on page 159 states the P was added to the obverse in 1968 It says "minmark on obverse staring 1968" but until 1980 the "P" mintmark was no mintmark.

As requested below are two new close up photos of the dime. I looked real hard to find a mint mark and could not, so it truly is a Philly dime that got sealed in with the Denver coins.

I have another one -- a 1969 plain Roosevelt in Denver mint cello. Would like to know how often these packaging errors turn up.
