So now I feel compelled to collect Washington quarters. And I've decided to do it old school (except for expecting to find anymore silver quarters in circulation).

Cool!

Those will probably tone your coins like mad, though. Those old cheap folders were definitely not acid-free!

Rest in Peace

You weren't kidding about going old school! Cool old folders. Maybe from the 60's, you think? Even if you don't put your collection of quarters in them, they would be a cool part of a collection in their own right.

Buy a Dansco,a little pricier, but it won't tone your coins. Plus you can see both sides of the coin.

An old Library of Coins album from the fifties would go nicely.

I would guess the albums are from 1957 since that's the last date in the album. There are several blank holes after the 1957 date for expansion into the future ...

Some more info on the albums from http://www.coinbooks.com:

Dave Lange writes: "Martin Luther Beistle was awarded U.S. patent
number 1,719,962 for the Unique brand coin album. This patent was
later sold to Wayte Raymond, who marketed these albums through Scott
Stamp and Coin Company as the National brand. That brand was marketed
into the early 1970s. I believe that this was existing stock from the
1960s, as I've never seen a mintage figure for dates later than 1964
or so.

And for those of you fretting about acidity and toning, I don't plan on putting together a collection of any particular value. I used to have more fun collecting coins out of circulation than just buying what I needed. Finding the 1959 spurred the idea of revisiting collecting the old way (or at least as close as I can).

Not really fretting, just mentioning it. To be honest, album toned coins generally carry a premium anymore, so it's not always a bad thing.

It will be a fun project for you! Welcome to the forum.

I recommend the Dansco 7140.

It's fun to go after them in circulated state. I filled the 1932-1998 album with good looking circulated ones and replace out the cupronickel clad coins as I find better specimens. Going after Barber, Walker and Franklin halves now the same way.
